MONDAY DAYTIME ACTIVITIES

This is the day we wake up, pack our stuff, and say goodbye to all of our friends, old and new, and begin the journey home after one last hearty breakfast.

The bus for the airport will load up for a TBD a.m. departure.

NEW FOR 2008:

We'll be running a couple add-on activities for Monday, for those who will still be in town, or who wish to meander back to NY rather than rush right home....

Minnewaska State Park Lake Awosting Hike and Swim. Explore this hikers paradise with an 7-mile hike through Minnewaska State Park in New Paltz. We will start off from Lake Minnewaska on some carriage roads to Lake Awosting and marvel at the charming views of the Catskill Mountains. Watch out for blueberries!! Bring towel, swimsuit, and water shoes for a looong jump in the lake. (Once you’re in, its hard to come out!!!). Bring lunch, 2 liters of water, and extra water shoes for the lake (but wear hiking boots or sneakers for the hike). Elevation gain TBD. Distance from Camp: 45 min. Contact Hannah at (info TBD)

Hike to Breakneck Ridge. Ranked #1 on the "Best Trails in North America" list on Trails.com. Climb famous Breakneck Ridge and see awesome views of the Hudson River and the surrounding area. The first 1.5 hours entails plenty of rock scrambling as you gain about 1200 feet in altitude. This is not a hike for those with any unusual fear of heights (speak with the leader if you have any doubts)! Bring hiking boots (required), lunch, water (2+ liters), daypack, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, etc. Given our late start time, we have chosen a route that we should complete in under 4 hours (including lunch). More information about the hike is available at http://www.nycdayhiking.com/breaknec.htm. Elevation gain 1200'. Distance from Camp: TBD min.
