Leader: Marsha Zellner
I
have chosen this locale for a trip as it is one of my favorite
places. I find it mesmerizing. I have been to
Yellowstone 4
times. First on a 12 hour 300 mile guided tour on the Grand
Loop,
then again on 2 separate winter guided tours (1 week + each),
and
again on a 12 day visit that I researched and put together for
myself and my 2 nephews; this included a 2 night 3 day kayak
trip
on Shoshone Lake. I have read extensively about the park, have
lots of the books, hiking guides etc. I am a member
of the
Yellowstone Association so I am able to contact them and benefit from
their expertise in making plans for visiting the park.
The
itinerary I have selected allows participants to learn and understand
the geologic and political history of the park, explore its highlights,
and experience it in a way that 98% of the park visitors never
do. I have chosen to do guided tours at the beginning of the
experience in the different areas so our participants
can
understand the overall gestalt of the areas they will be
visiting. These tours are highly informative and
very entertaining. I have already done
many of the
scheduled activities and eagerly look forward to both previously seen
and new adventures.
I
have been Chairperson of Mosaic International Labor Day events in 1996,
2000, 2001, and have participated in a major role in almost all other
international events since 1995. These events each gathered large
(150-250) groups of people at
summer camps in
different parts of the US for a weekend of varied outdoor activities
(Hiking, Biking, Kayak, etc.). I
also did 9 years of service as a National Board Member at large of
MOCA, and as a local hike leader. I
started my outdoor experience as a Brownie in Girl Scouts, and
continued through achieving the highest level available at the time.
I learned much about being part of our
great world through the scouts. Starting
with them I have now accumulated 40 years of camping/hiking/ canoeing
experience. I am certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular
Life Support (ACLS), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Wilderness First Aid
and Rescue (SOLO). I have had wilderness survival skills training as well.
In my full time life I am a board
certified
Internist. I have worked in
Emergency Medicine for the past 15 years. The
last 10 have been spent at St. Vincent's Medical Center, a level II
trauma center in Bridgeport, CT. I
also have knowledge of a wide variety of plant life, including
traditional herbal healing and edible plants. My
free time at home, besides hiking with my 2 dogs and kayaking, is spent
in my garden, cooking gourmet meals for friends, or sewing quilts and
handbags to sell at craft shows.
