Trip Difficulty / Expectations / Experience Level for Participants

Participant Expectations:
You should enjoy traveling and be comfortable traveling in areas which are unfamiliar to you. You should recognize that you may find yourself in closer quarters or be less comfortable than you are used to at home. If you are a loner, if you cannot accept and enjoy being part of a group, if you are not a team player who is willing to help your fellow travelers and contribute to their having a great time, then please do not register for this excursion.  This trip is designed for moderately experienced hikers. On the day hikes, you must be able to hike 7 to 9 miles a day at a moderate pace easily, with moderate elevation gains, while carrying enough equipment to keep you safe in the event of bad weather or injury.

When you participate on any activity on this trip you should be both physically and mentally prepared and equipped with the appropriate gear. You should always be aware of the risks involved and conduct yourself accordingly. We are not responsible for your safety: you are. If you have any doubt about your ability, prior to registering for this activity you are asked to discuss your capabilities with the trip leader. Please do not be offended by any questions. They are for your own protection as well the good of the group.

Single Applicants: All rooms are based on double occupancy. The leaders will help find a roommate for you but will be pleased if you can do so on your own. We assign two persons to a room. The leaders reserve the right to change roommates for whatever reason.

Group Safety:
Group safety is always the highest priority. The group always stays together and hikes at a pace comfortable for the slowest person. All should be prepared to carry as many as three quarts of water and have appropriate clothing, including a hat and spring-weight hiking boots, for the day’s hike. We will be hiking in bear country. We do not want to be hiking alone. In fact, we will always be in groups of four or more.

Conditions and Responsibilities:
Marsha Zellner and Brian Horowitz are the volunteer leaders of this trip. They act only in the capacity of agents for the trip participants in all matters connected with accommodations, transportation, and all other activities of the trip and, as agents, hold themselves free from any responsibility and liability for damage or injury occasioned by such cause. They will not be responsible for expenses resulting from accidents, injuries, illness including heat stroke and sunburn, evacuation, or other medical conditions or treatment. They reserve the right to decline to accept or retain any person as a member of the trip at any time before or during the actual trip. No refunds will be made for absences during any part of this trip. Participants will abide by the decisions of the trip leaders made in the interest and/or safety of the group. Mosaic recommends that you also consider trip cancellation, additional medical and baggage insurance. Information about these will be provided when requested.

Information about the Participant Waiver
While the Mosaic Club and its leaders exercise every effort to conduct safe outings, sometimes accidents do happen. Therefore, it is the Club’s policy to require participants to waive any claim arising from negligence and to execute the Club’s written express release of liability and express assumption of risk form. While the Mosaic Club values the participation of minors with their parents or legal guardians on outings, our policies also require that the minor’s parent or guardian execute the assumption of risk and release of liability document on behalf of their minor child or children as a condition of participating in any outing. Minors are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult at all times on this trip.  There is no reduction in the price for a minor.
