President’s Message

Hey there Mosaicers.  In August we have two big events.  We start the month with our whitewater weekend in Ohiopyle.  We end the month with the Mosaic International Event at the Wisconsin Dells.  The whitewater weekend deadline has already passed, but there is still time to register for the International Event.  Consider going, there are terrific activities, its a great way to meet people and should be fun, fun, fun.

This month we wish a fond farewell to Dan Price.  Dan is one of the founders of Mosaic in Ohio, he has served as President and is currently Activities Director, but we will really miss having him at event.  Good luck Dan and come back and visit often.  If possible, try to make the Sunday August 9 event to wish Dan goodbye.

With Dan leaving, I am looking for people to form an Activities Committee.  If you would like to help out, please let me know.  This is your chance to get involved.

We need Event Hosts for most of our activities this month.  Being a host means that people interested in the event will call you to ask questions and to RSVP.  We are volunteer run and need members to help out.

Get out and have some fun this month.

Steven Berger, President

From the Activities Director

This will be my last newsletter as I will be heading off to Worcester MA in a couple o f weeks. I will be teaching at Anna Maria College in the fall and have been accepted to the new rabbinical school at the Boston Hebrew College for the fall of 2004.  After seven years of threatening, I’m finally leaving.  So, I just want to take this opportunity to say goodbye and that being a part of Mosaic has been an important part of my life during my time in Northeast Ohio.  It has been wonderful to watch the club that I helped organize five years ago grow and develop. At the same time, I’ve had the opportunity to meet and get to know so many nice people.  I want to thank Howard, Melissa, Elizabeth, Steve, Brett, and all of the others who have given their time and efforts to Mosaic. I leave knowing that the club has a bright future and is in good hands.  Best of luck to everybody, and please contact me if you are ever in the Boston area. My new e-mail will be dprice@annamaria.edu

TWILIGHT HIKE AT SANCTUARY MARSH NATURE CENTER IN THE NORTH CHAGRIN METROPARK FOLLOWED BY DINNER AT ALADDINS

When:  Wednesday, August 13, 6:00 p.m. (meet at 5:50) for the hike: 7:30 p.m. for dinner.

What: The ducks and geese at Sunset Pond are eagerly anticipating our monthly evening stroll in the North Chagrin Metropark. This is an easy hike with some moderate hills. Tennis shoes should suffice unless it is muddy. I wouldn’t even think about hiking at twilight in Cleveland in August without bug spray. We’ll than head to Aladdin’s at 775 SOM Center for dinner. If it’s raining, we’ll probably head right to dinner.

Where:  The Nature Center is on your right on Buttermilk Parkway in the North Chagrin Metropark. The park is off of SOM Center Road in Mayfield Village. Take 271 North to the Wilson Mills Road Exit. Take a right on to Wilson Mills. Make a left on to SOM. The entrance to the park (Sunset Lane) is on your right (right before SOM becomes four lanes). Take Sunset Lane to Buttermilk Falls Parkway and turn right. Stay right at the triangle and take then take a right into the Nature Center (Sanctuary Marsh) parking lot.

What:     Join Mosaic for an evening at the ballgame as we will see the Indians Single A minor league affiliate in their inaugural season at their beautiful new ballpark in Eastlake.  The opponent for the evening will be something called the Kannapolis Invaders (Does anybody know where Kannapolis is anyway?).

Where:  The Captain’s Stadium is located on Route 91 in Eastlake just north of route 2.  Take 271 North (make sure you are in the local lanes) to 90 east. Exit at Route 91 (SOM Center) and make a right on to Route 91 heading north. The stadium is just past Route 2.  We will meet by the main box office.

What:  The section of the Buckeye Trail heading north from Boston Store features some nice hills and two waterfalls. This is a strenuous hike and hiking boots are advised. Of course, sun block and bug spray are necessities. There is also an interesting display on canal boats at the Boston Store that you might want to check out.

Where:  We will meet at the Boston Store, which is located on Boston Mills Road near the intersection of Riverview Road. Take 271 South to Route 303. Make a right on Route 303 and head east.  As you enter Peninsula, you will make a left on to Riverview Road (traffic light). If you cross the Cuyahoga River and the railroad tracks, you’ve gone too far.  After Riverview Road goes under the Ohio Turnpike and Route 271, look for Boston Mills Road on your right. If you pass Boston Mills ski area, you’ve gone too far. Boston Store will be on your immediate right.
