Tu B’Shevat Hike and Outdoor Sedar
Held by Mosaic Outdoor Club of Houston

What better way to celebrate the holiday of Tu B’Shevat then hiking through a forest? That’s the way that several members from the Mosaic Outdoor Club of Houston spent this past Sunday in Huntsville State Park.
Thanks to the efforts of the 2004/2005 Mosaic Houston Club Leader, Barry Laves, Mosaic members and guests were treated to a day filled with great fun. The day began with several readings discussing the many interpretations of Tu B’Shevat and the significance of celebrating the “awakening of the trees after a long winter,” and a blessing over the wine. During the hike, the group stopped periodically for more readings, blessings over the wine and snacks of dried fruit and nuts. As the walking “Sedar” progressed, the group enjoyed the crisp cold air, seeing the natural evolution of the trees, and listened to the sound of the cracking twigs and rustle of the leaves under their feet over the 4 mile trail. A fun Low ropes course was introduced during the hike too.
