Friday-Sunday October 18-21, 2002
Camping at North Kettle Moraine State Forest (NKMSF)

DATE: Weekend of October 18-20
TIME: Meet at Mauthe Lake Campground Friday evening.
COST: $28 members, $38 non-members
Note: Bike, canoe, horse rentals, trail permits extra.
RSVP: Registration deadline is October 15. Space is limited and is on a first come, first served basis. Please email me at Neil Libby if you're interested in canoe, bike or horse rentals.

North Kettle Moraine State Forest is a scenic area in central Wisconsin about 3 hours north of Chicago near the city of Fond du Lac. We will be doing a low-key car camping trip at the Mauthe Lake campground. Activities at Mauthe Lake include canoeing, horseback riding, hiking and biking (mtn and road). I have contact numbers for horseback riding, road bike and canoe rentals which i'll pass along to those who are interested. Note: there are no mtn biking rentals within reasonable driving distance of Mauthe Lake. If you'd like to mtn bike, it's BYOB. Trail permits are required for mtn bike and horseback riding.

The basic itinerary is to get up to NKMSF Friday evening, set up camp (I think it will be too late to have a full dinner cookout, so everybody will be on their own for dinner on Fri nite), hang out around the campfire then have breakfast Saturday morning. We'll have a full day on Saturday for the various activities mentioned above. We'll regroup in the late afternoon (the sun will be going down before 6 PM by then, ugh!!) and set up for our cookout dinner. The event officially ends Sunday morning after breakfast, however anyone is welcome to stay longer and ride, hike or whatever.

Price includes two breakfasts, one dinner (the Saturday nite campfire blowout), one lunch and camping fees. We'll only buy Kosher hot dogs, but other things such as burgers and chicken would be regular supermarket fare. Boca Burgers will be available as well.... No pork products will be bought by this trip leader.

IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ!
Since MOSAIC is an outdoor oriented organization and seeks to promote good environmental stewardship, this trip will set a precedent for future events requiring food preparation. I'm asking all participants (as well as everyone reading this announcement planning to do future MOSAIC events) to designate a plate and cup (cheap and non breakable, of course!) as their designated "MOSAIC dinnerware"... Using them on MOSAIC camping trips, bonfires etc will greatly reduce the incredible waste generated at these types of events as well as lowering costs because they won't have to be purchased for each event. Also, MOSAIC is an all volunteer-led and and pro-active organization. Participants are asked to lend a helping hand, whether it's cleaning-up, cooking, getting water, helping others with tent set-up etc... It all contributes to a community atmosphere, plus it eases the work-load on the trip leader(s). Thankyou.

Happy trails! Neil
