We know you have questions and many have been raised, so here they are and our answers. If you still have questions please contact us at atlanta@mosaics.org
What are the top reasons people join Mosaic?
Some people think that MOSAIC caters to singles not couples or married couples. We have singles and couples that are active in our activities and do not cater to one or the other. Our primary focus is Jewish people doing things together, primarily outdoors.
Is Mosaic an Environmental Group? No, however since we do enjoy the outdoors, we obviously
care about the environment and so some people might say we are environmental. We
are not "officially" an environmental group, however, we do try
to give back to the environment, by participating in some environmental
activities if they go along with a Jewish holiday, like "tree
planting" for Tu B'shevat. We also support a project called
"Adopt-a-Stream," in which we monitor a section of a river, year
round, for pollution. Activities in Mosaic are based on our membership,
therefore, if a member initiates an environmental activity, we will try to fit
it into our calendar, as appropriate.
We have members of all ages from the 20's to many in their senior years. Events usually draw a good mixture of ages. The largest number of participants are in the 30s-50s range as this is the range where the majority of our membership falls. This does not mean people outside that range don't participate, because that is not true. There have been events with kids, teenagers, young adult, adult and seniors all participating in the same event. Remember it is the fellowship of Jews outdoors, not how old someone is.
Can I bring a friend along? Please do! If you know people that would be interested, feel free to bring them along. This includes visitors from out of town. This might be the thing that makes their visit memorable (Would you remember if you visited a friend and they took you on a beautiful outing with great people?)
Does Mosaic observe kashrut at its events?
Most Mosaic events that involve food are generally ones in which you bring food, thus if you bring kosher food then you have a kosher meal. Events where food is provided are generally kosher, but you may wish to contact the event coordinator to determine if you need to make special arrangements.
Does Mosaic observe Shabbat at its events?
Most Mosaic events occur on Sunday so as not to interfere with Shabbat. There are some events scheduled during the week as well. Occasionally events might be scheduled for Saturday evening, but those events are scheduled to start after sundown. Weekend events are scheduled to begin before sundown on Friday and return on Sunday. Weekend events usually involve some sort of service on Friday night and Havdallah on Saturday evening. If you want more details please contact the event coordinator.
Article VI
Sect 3. Activities.
A variety of activities will be scheduled on Sundays rather than Saturdays whenever possible. At times, activities will be scheduled on Friday and/or Saturday to allow
for camping and locations that are too far for day trips and for events that can only be done on Saturday. Activities may be scheduled on week nights when the
occasion permits.
