HouseParty Prep with the Atlanta ToolBank

Sunday, April 30, 2006 @ 8:30AM

Like Mosaic, the Atlanta ToolBank is a non-profit organization
that does outdoor activity. Unlike us though, the ToolBank has
a huge warehouse full of home maintenance supplies and tools,
donated by major Atlanta businesses, which are loaned out
free of charge to charitable organizations for use as necessary
in benefiting worthy causes throughout Atlanta.

Once a year, the ToolBank performs a major act of charity
called the Atlanta HouseParty wherein teams of volunteers gather
on a specific day at Turner Field, and then are dispatched to sites
around the impoverished areas of the city to assist Seniors
with the ToolBank's own version of Home and/or yard Makeovers.

Mark Broadbeck and Lisa Garcia, friends of mine, have asked
whether Mosaic would like to furnish a team to help.

This year, rather than have a one-day work marathon as has been
in the past, projects are being spread out over a more flexible
calendar; teams will be working individually, so Mosaic volunteers
will have a chance to show the world what we can do as a unit.

The culmination of our action, plus that of many other teams,
will result in the major House Party (task completion) event
to be held later in MAY.

We will meet at the ToolBank at 8:30am, and will have a brief
orientation and tour of the ToolBank from 8:30am until 9:00am.
We will then follow Lisa Garcia, a ToolBank staffer, and caravan
over to the senior's project house where we will work
from about 9:15 until around 12:15.

The ToolBank will provide fuel including water, juice,
and light snacks (chips, cookies etc) and all of the tools
and supplies necessary to complete the tasks at hand.
We should wear comfortable clothes and shoes that we do not
mind getting "painty". Most likely, we will be priming a house
to prepare it for the 2006 Atlanta House Party.

We will get more information about the senior
and the project as we get a bit closer to the date.

If you and your friends are interested in this calorie-burning
"feel-good" experience, please let me know.
