Mosaic of Georgia will be entering one or more teams
in the orienteering meet set up by the Georgia Orienteering
Club http://gaorienteering.org.

Orienteering is kind of like a treasure hunt.
Each team of two or three people will be given a map with
targets identified. The team will use a compass and the map
to navigate through the brush, marsh or whatever to find
the targets. It’s both a hunt and a race and prizes may be
given to the team that finds the most and gets back the fastest.

Most of us are novices or may have done this just a couple
of times so we’ll be attending the beginners instruction.

Everyone is welcome to try it.

Meeting Time: 9:45 am

Instruction: 10:00 am

Contest Starts 10:30 to 11:00

End before 3 pm

Location: Powers Island Lot
(this is across the river from where the joggers park)

Directions: From I-75 on the North side of Atlanta,
go east on I-285 to exit 22, Northside Dr/Powers Ferry Rd.
Go straight thru the 1st light,
then left at the 2nd light and cross I-285.
Continue on Interstate North Pkwy for approx 3/4 mile
and turn right into the parking lot just before you cross the river.

What to Bring:
Orienteering compass with directional markings,
(these can be bought for a few dollars at REI and I’m sure other locations.)
At least one compass per team is needed.
Hiking shoes preferred since the ground is marshy. Trail runners
are probably ok, though your feet will get wet.
Long Pants. Hat. Sun block. Water, snacks at your discretion.

Cost: $8 per team plus $3 per non-mosaic member (or join that day for $25/year)
