Leader: Gary Vogin gvogin@gmail.com Cell: 404-550-9656
RSVP Note: The deadline has been extended one more time.
As of Tuesday, Feb. 28, 10 adults and 2 children are registered.
We will have one guide for every 15 participants, so there
are definitely three spots left to be claimed.
Beyond that, participation will be at the discretion of the leader.
No Experience Necessary! Children 6 and over are welcome, too.
Join us as we go down under.
No, not to Australia but down under Raccoon mountain.
We’ll be going on a wild cave expedition. If you have never
been and you're not afraid to get a little muddy and maybe
a little wet while crawling through tubes and narrow spaces
with names such as the “birth canal” and the “49 cent squeeze,”
then this is an adventure for you.
We’ll also get to see some cave-dwelling wildlife and some
fossils. I’ve been to several caves over the years and this
is one of my favorites.
Our plan is to do the 4-hour Echo Room tour.
You can read more about it on their website:
http://www.raccoonmountain.com/index.html
After caving, if anyone is interested, we may head into Chattanooga
for dinner or to see the waterfront or to go to the aquarium
(probably not open that late or maybe the imax though probably
not open either) (it’s only 7 minutes away from the cave).
Cost: this depends
Members: $35.00 this will include the tip for the guides.
Non-members: $38 or join the club for the annual $25
and pay only $35 for the caving.
Note: Children 6 and over are welcome. Our info at
this time indicates it is the same price for children.

Meeting Time: 9:15
Return to Atlanta: late
It takes about 2 hours to get there and we’ll be going
into the cave about 12 or 12:30pm. 4 hours in the cave.
Time to clean up (showers on the premises)
plus 2 hours to get home is 7pm, later if we stop for dinner.
Meeting Location for ride sharing:
Marriott at 200 Interstate North Parkway Atlanta, GA 30339
Directions:
Take I-75 North to the Windy Hill Exit
Stay to the Far right lane which wraps around to Interstate North Parkway.
The Hotel is on the left.
Follow the signs for the Ballroom/meeting rooms to the right and back of the hotel.
If you come from I-75 South go East on Windy Hill Rd
Then Right turn on to Interstate North Parkway and follow the directions above.
What to bring: It’s about 60 degrees in the cave so wear layers
that will keep you warm but not too warm since you will be exerting.
But your clothes will get muddy and may stain with the red clay.
Wear long pants and long sleeves as your bottom layer.
We want to minimize skin contact with the cave to protect the cave.
Hiking shoes are helpful, but off road running shoes are ok.
They’ll supply gloves, helmets, lights, and knee pads.
Bring a change of clothes, there are showers at the onsite camping facilities.
There are NO bathrooms in the cave, it’s only 4 hours
and cool so keep the drinking to a minimum.
You probably don’t need to take water with you
and we’ll have time for a snack before entering the cave.
Bring a camera, but no pets,
and hey, this is one time you probably don’t need sun block.
Also bring money to help out the driver and for dinner if we stop.
Bring snack/light lunch to eat before going into the cave if you would like.
