Hey all you hikers, come join the campers at Cloudland Canyon
for our signature event: the day hike at the canyon.
Cloudland Canyon park is located on the western edge of Lookout Mountain
and is considered by some to be the most scenic parks in the state.
The campers will most likely get in a short hike in the morning
but then meet up with the day hikers to walk the rim
and possibly the falls. We'll see at the time.
The rim trail is moderate intensity and about 5 miles long.
The waterfalls are down a lot of steps.
Since a bunch of us (10 signed up as of Thurs, Jan 05)
will be up there, Gary Kaplan offered to meet the group locally
to coordinate ride sharing.
It takes about 2 to 2.5 hrs to get there so we'll be starting
a little bit early so you can meet us at about noon.
Local Meeting Time: 9:00 AM (it takes about 2 to 2.5 hours to get there)
Meeting Location: Marriott at 200 Interstate North Parkway Atlanta, GA 30339
Directions to ride share meeting spot:
Take I-75 North to the Windy Hill Exit
Stay to the Far right lane which wraps around to Interstate North Parkway.
The Hotel is on the left.
Follow the signs for the Ballroom/meeting rooms to the right and back of the hotel.
If you come from I-75 South go East on Windy Hill Rd
Then Right turn on to Interstate North Parkway and follow the directions above.
Cost: Free to members; $3 for non-member (or join that day for $25/year)
Bring: Hiking Shoes, Sun Block, Water, or Sports Drink or equivalent,
Lunch or snacks for the Trail, layered clothing, money for parking
($3 per car), money to assist the driver (expect about $5 per person
but depends on the car, number of passengers etc)
Dogs: as with most state parks they should be allowed on leashes.
